Panchakarma is an integral part of Ayurveda. It is a therapeutic process designed to cleanse and rejuvenate the body, mind, and spirit. The word ‘Panchakarma’ is of Sanskrit origin. ‘Pancha’ means five; ‘Karma’ means action. Thus, panchakarma is a therapeutic method of controlling Vata, Pitta, and Kapha in the body through five actions. Apart from this, Panchakarma Kriya primarily consists of five purification procedures. Those procedures are: Vamana (emesis), Virechana (purification), Basti (enema), Nasya (nasal administration), and Raktamokshana (bleeding).
